Description MADS is an ancient TF-family with members occurring in species from all three kingdoms of life. It is a very prominent family in plants but relatively small in vertebrates with just five TFs in human. Besides the HMG TFs, this is the second class of TFs that contacts mostly the minor groove of the DNA instead of the major groove, and similarly to HMG-TFs this is also accompanied by a large shift in the shape of the DNA. |
